Happy September everyone! September has always been my favorite month of the year and just one of the many reasons why is because it is the month we go back to Hogwarts! Now for those of you who aren’t potter heads, Hogwarts is the magical place that Harry Potter and friends travel to each year on September 1st to continue learning witchcraft and wizardry. Although I could go on and on about the series as it is my absolute favorite (Ravenclaw here!), this post is actually about my bullet journal theme for September which is, of course, Harry Potter. If you do not know what bullet journaling is and would like to be enlightened I have explained it in a previous blog post that I will link at the bottom of this one along with a quick YouTube video I found useful. Okay now onto the main event!
September’s Cover Page
The idea for this theme naturally started while I was scrolling through Pinterest and the algorithm figured out my love for all things Harry Potter as well as Bullet Journaling. I had received the blackout book for Christmas 2019 and thought it would be the perfect canvas for a Harry Potter themed September. I also noticed that there were a lot of Harry Potter Bullet Journal pins on Pinterest but not many were set on black pages, so I thought this might be a bit more unique as well.
This page took the longest of all the spreads I did for this month. Mostly because it has a lot more detail work. It was important to me to include a little trinket from every book that meant something, and of course I had to include Hogwarts itself in the bottom left corner. The quote is iconic, so naturally I had to include it in the cover page (plus it was probably the only notable quote in the series that would fit). Usually I would put my monthly goals/itinerary on the same page as the monthly calendar but this month was an exception because of all the detail work I decided to do. Overall, I am very pleased on how it turned out and it was my first time using acrylograph pens, which I really liked. ( I will link the pens I used at the bottom of this post as well).
Month at a Glance/Habit Tracker
The “Month at a Glance” is a spread I had gotten away from using but for my September theme it fit in perfectly since I added the calendar to my cover page. It outlines my personal and professional goals as well as my itinerary for the month. Usually the itinerary section is where any appointments, meetings or events are written so that when I do my weekly spreads I have a quick reference.
Habit trackers are my favorite “extra” spread that I use every single month. Every once in a while I’ll add a sleep or mood tracker but the habit tracker is my go-to. This September spread is unique for this page too because I downsized the amount of habits I track to four. Normally, I have anywhere from 10-15 so this is a big shift for me. Half of the reason for that is the fact that there are only four Hogwarts houses and I really liked this layout that kept popping up on Pinterest. Also, I found that the more habits I tried to track the more I spread myself thin on trying to achieve them all. Subsequently, when I wasn’t doing them all everyday I would give up filling out the tracker (that I had worked so hard to create) halfway through the month. Pro tip: Since the tracker is a play on Hogwarts house points if you want your “house” to win then put a more achievable habit for that house for motivation!
Weekly Spread
Last, but certainly not least, here is one of my weekly spreads for this month. In the future I may update this post to add the other weeks I did but for now I am just going to include the first one since I have a bad habit of working really hard on the first weekly spread (or two) and then getting lazy and half-assing the rest. This is where the “magic” happens and my bullet journal serves it’s main purpose (for me), which is simply a daily organizer. I start my weeks on Saturday since that is the first day of payroll for my job and our schedules run from Saturday to Friday.
Of course I had to make the first week “Back to Hogwarts” themed because it is literally the week we would go back. I like to have a lot of length for each day to list off my tasks because I hate cramming words into small spaces or running out of room to write. Side note: The Harry Potter “font” really isn’t that hard to do as long as you are patient with yourself when you start. Once you have done a few words or quotes it actually flows quite smoothly.
Thank you so much for reading/checking out this post! Whether you are into HP, Bullet Journaling or just bored in the house I do appreciate it. Feedback is always appreciated so please feel free to comment! Thanks again and I’ll see you in the Great Hall for the welcome back feast!
